Fun Friday- swapping out lamps, Oh Disney Day, and the most delicious dessert I've ever had
Updated: Nov 11, 2020
I've been waffling on the lamps I ordered for our bedroom ever since I pulled them out of the box (last year). They are a bit on the small side...or maybe they just feel small since the master bedroom and the mirrors behind our bed are so massive.
I've been considering swapping them out, but wasn't sure what exactly I wanted to add...cut to my mother sending me some photos of my grandmother's old brass lamps she used to have in her living room asking me if I wanted them, she passed away last spring and my mom and aunts have been going through her house cleaning it out. I really loved them and thought they might be perfect for our nightstands, or at least worth trying... so yesterday, I pulled the ol' switcheroo...
I am obsessed!! I probably need to update the shades, these are pretty old and yellow- but they are good quality and such a unique shape...I even like the gold detail on the edge of the shade...so for now they are staying. I'm also torn on whether or not I should clean up the brass...I personally don't mind it looking a bit tarnished, but I may play around with some brasso at some point.

Either way, the scale is so. much. better. Here's another before where you can really grasp the scale change. Also, taking photos with a full frame DSLR (above photo) beats an Iphone 10 any day (below).
I love having a sweet reminder of my grandma in my room. She was such a special woman that we all miss so much.
These past two weeks of launching this new blog and sharing regularly have been so much fun, it's truly the job I was always day-dreaming about. And while I’m at it…doing all the things I’ve always wanted to do, I also have another side passion project I wanted to tell you about! It’s a little Instagram page I started years ago- a place to share my Disney World obsession and my family's trips- called @OhDisneyDay. It's pretty much the complete opposite of what you see of me and my style here- over there you can expect to find rainbow, glitter, and lots of pink. Kind of like if you crawled into the mind of a seven year old girl...this is what it would look like. I’ve also been designing t-shirt designs for a new Oh Disney Day Etsy store. Yes, my little Instagram now has an Etsy store. It’s just fun, I had all of these ideas for shirts jotted into a notebook around this time last year and I’ve just been making them into SVG cut files for a cricut or silhouette machine. They sell for $2.50 so I’m not exactly trying to strike it rich on Etsy or anything, but it’s just a creative outlet for me that I really enjoy.
Halloween is quickly approaching, usually by this time of year I have costumes planned and our yard is decorated, but this year I'm still not even entirely sure what I'm going to dress up as! The kids bought their costumes a few weeks ago, but Kris and I are still trying to figure out if we can make a family costume happen...it's kind of a tradition with us.
We postponed Halloween decorating on the exterior of our house because of the landscaping update, but I think this weekend we are finally going to tackle putting up our decorations- better late than never! I'll be sure to share more on instastories as we set everything up over the weekend- so be sure to follow along!
Last, but not least I can't leave you without talking about the BEST dessert I've ever had (and I've had a lot)...it's a recipe I stumbled upon by listening to the Office Ladies Podcast (I mentioned my obsession with that last week)- Angela and her husband have a baking blog and youtube channel (Baking with Josh and Ange) and a few weeks back they mentioned the brookie bar cookies...they are half brownie + half chocolate chip cookie...I was drooling as they were talking about it. Now my typical diet these days doesn't include a ton of flour or sugar, but every once in awhile I love to treat myself- so my three year old Lincoln and I made these last weekend and HOLY COW! They are so good, they are definitely going to become my go-to when making a dessert to take to gatherings. You know... after we can gather normally again. I hope you have a great weekend! I'll be decorating for Halloween, attending my son's swim meets, and maybe...just maybe making a batch of brookies!
xoxo,
