One Room Challenge- Week 5
Updated: Jun 25, 2021
Another week and another curveball for my One Room Challenge!
This week I planned to work on the curtains and when I went to get started on them, I realized that I only had two panels- I thought I had ordered four panels so I could do a double panel sewed together on each side, but these curtains I bought only came with ONE panel! The price was for one curtain panel so all I had were two panels. *sigh* How is that even a thing?! I ended up placing another order for the next two panels I needed and now I'm hoping they get here quickly so I can finish those up for next week! I also still need to get some thick trim to add to the sides to really luxe them up. While I was ordering the (additional) curtains I also seriously started second guessing the coffered ceiling. Yes, the coffered ceiling I have been planning on since week one! I had even found all of these custom pieces I was going to order from Ekena Millwork. In fact, I did order some samples and even had Kris hold them up...
I was debating on whether to install them butted up against the crown or maybe a few inches out... when I realized I hated both of those options. So I came up with another idea entirely inspired by this image.
After a bit of searching online I found these molding corners, this trim, and this oversized ceiling medallion and came up with this ceiling plan.
Imagine this as if you're looking straight up at the ceiling. I immediately liked this design so much better, but I was worried. Was I just swayed by the fact that this was cheaper (less than half of the cost) and would be wildly easier to install?? Am I being lazy? I wondered. I decided to take it to a vote with you guys on Instagram. 80% of you actually liked the ornate molding better than the coffered ceiling (which received 20% of the vote), so that gave me a bit of solace and I actually pulled the trigger and ordered all of the pieces for this plan yesterday! I can't wait for everything to come in and get it installed! But that did leave me wondering what I could accomplish this week for the One Room Challenge...
Thankfully some other things I had ordered for the space had come in so I went ahead and rolled out the rug and added some artwork!
The rug is the prettiest blush rug from Pottery Barn and it's just a peek at some of the blush color I am planning to introduce into this space. The curtains are also going to bring in some blush and will add such a fun unexpected twist to this room (I hope)! I also added some art from Level Frames. I pulled some free art prints from themet.com and had them printed, matted, and framed. They turned out gorgeous!
Here are links to the free art downloads right here! floral print | abstract print I also pulled in the bar cart that I found on Facebook Marketplace several months ago. I've been collecting decanters and barware over the last few months as well, and it was so exciting to finally pull it all together.
I have a few more pieces of art from Level Frames that I plan to hang in here, but will do that closer to the end, I wanted to wait until the room comes together just a bit more so I can decide exactly where I want to hang them! So that's where we are after completing Week 5! We'll see if the curveballs keep coming or I can tackle the curtains next week like I'm planning. Three more weeks until the final reveal you guys- get excited!!
