One Room Challenge- Week 7

Updated: Jun 25, 2021

This week was all about the ceiling for the One Room Challenge. A project I thought I would start much earlier than I did is finally finished (shhh I still need to paint it)! Stay with me here, the after photos are ROUGH this week, because the room is basically finished and I want to save it for the final reveal which is just a few DAYS away at this point- GET excited!!

So if you've been here with me from the beginning you know the original plan was to do a coffered ceiling and then I started second guessing that plan week 5. That's when I went back to the drawing board and came up with an entirely new plan using these molding corners, this trim, and this (enormous) ceiling medallion.

I'm slightly relieved I ended up going this direction because 1) I absolutely love it and 2) installation was a breeze and so much easier than an entire coffered ceiling would have been (I'm assuming, I've never actually installed a coffered ceiling). Kris helped me nail the ceiling medallion in using this cordless nail gun, which was a new purchase for this project, and such a great tool to add to our arsenal. We have a lot more molding we want to add to this house so I know this nail gun is going to come in so handy. I struggled a little getting the two halves of the medallion to line up be perfectly even... but after adding about fifty more brad nails it was looking pretty good and I could caulk everything.

I still need to sand the seams down out and then paint everything, which I was hoping to finish this week, but instead I opted to spend the day with my family on one of Kris' off days and I have absolutely zero regrets. The ceiling will get painted eventually, maybe tomorrow!

In the meantime this is where we are and I'm so happy with how the molding ended up looking! Here is a final to-do list of everything I still have to do to finish before the reveal next Thursday!

- paint the ceiling

- fix the left side of the curtains (remember that mishap?)

- maybe one last thrift trip for anything I might be missing?

- style out the room and photograph everything!

We are almost there! Look how far we've come!

Week 1- the plan and the mood board

Week 2- the foundation- find a table, install the chandelier, move the buffet in here

Week 3- reupholster the dining chairs

Week 4- paint and wallpaper

Week 5- adding the rug and art

Week 6- window treatments (50% done)

Week 7- add molding and ceiling medallion

Week 8- The final reveal!!

Want to see the entire One Room Challenge from start to finish? It's all here!
